Hague: Sudan told the International Court of Justice on Thursday that the United Arab Emirates were the “driving force” behind a genocide in Darfur, a position that the EAU said “could not be further from the truth.”
Jartum has dragged the EAU before the ICJ, accusing him of complicity in the genocide against the Masalit community by supporting the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF) that fight against the Sudanese army since 2023.
The EAU denies supporting the rebels and has dismissed the case of Sudan as a “political theater” that distracts efforts to end the war that has killed tens of thousands.
When opening the case in the ICJ, Muawia Osman, the Minister of Interim Justice of Sudan, told the Court that the “ongoing genocide would not be possible without the complicity of the EAU, including the sending of weapons to the RSF. Sudan wants the judges of the ICJ to go to the EAU to stop their alleged support for the RSF and make” complete repairs “, including compensation to the victims of the war.
