The German Biatlon champion Laura Dahlmeier, who captured two gold medals at the 2018 Olympic Games, died in mountaineering accidents in the remote range of Pakistan, the authorities said on Wednesday.
Dahlmeier, 31, was going up to Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range at approximately noon on Monday when she was beaten by the fall of rocks, according to statements of her team and the vice president of Alpine Club of Pakistan, Karrar Haidri.
The accident occurred at about 5,700 meters of elevation and his “climbing partner called emergency services” immediately, said the athlete’s team.
But “due to the remoteness of the area, a rescue helicopter could not reach the scene” until Tuesday morning, his team said.
“Laura died doing what she loved most, pushing her limits on the high mountains,” Haidri said. “Its strength, determination and passion have left an indelible brand in sports and mountaineering communities.”

The German captured a couple of Olympic titles in Pyeongchang 2018, in the sprint of 7.5 kilometers and the search for 10 kilometers. A bronze also took home in the 15 kilometers that winter from South Korea.
