Two people were shot dead on Tuesday in the name of ‘Honor’ at Barikot Tehsil of the Swat district, police said.
According to the officer of the Ghaligay Police Station House (Sho) Ali Bacha, the incident occurred in the Najigram area of Barikot Tehsil, Swat, where two men were shot dead in what is believed to be a shooting related to the ‘honor’.
“The incident occurred when a young man, a resident of Maniayar, entered a house in Najigram,” said Sho Bacha.
“The chief of the house saw him and opened fire, killing the victim on the spot,” said Sho Bacha, adding that during the shot, the owner’s brother was also fatally injured, succumbing to his wounds in the hospital.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
According to a resident of the area, the deceased was allegedly involved in an illegal relationship with a woman from the house.
The murders of ‘Honor’ continued to claim the lives of people throughout the country in 2024, perpetuated by deeply rooted social beliefs about family dignity and shame.
The data of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission (HRCP) show that in 2024, the murders of ‘Honor’ continued to be a serious problem, with particularly high figures in Sindh and Punjab. From January to November, 531 people were victims of “honoring” crimes in the country.
Outside the count, 185 were men, while a total of 346 women were killed throughout the country.
According to the account, around 16 men were killed in Baluchistan, one was killed in the capital, 32 were killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 53 were killed in Punjab and 83 were killed in Sindh in murders related to violence throughout the country.
