Two police officers were martyred, while a security guard lost his life in separate night attacks in the districts of Karak and Peshawar of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, authorities said on Sunday.
The development follows a series of attacks in the province a day ago in Lakki Marwat, Bannu, the district of Mohmand and Bajaur.
According to the Karak District Police officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi, the terrorists attacked two police stations and a sui gas installation during the night. There was a strong exchange of fire, which resulted in the martyrdom of two police officers and the death of a private security guard.
Dpo Elahi told the media that the terrorists attacked with heavy artillery, but Karak’s police rejected the three attacks.
He said that the armed men attacked the Khurram and Takht-E-Narati police stations, which resulted in the martyrdom of the sub-inspector of the Islam Noor Khan police in the last assault.
In the sui gas installation attack, the assailants were persecuted but managed to flee in the dark. However, one of them was killed.
Police also rescued a security guard kidnapped by armed militants after a fire exchange.
“The police demonstrated courage, fought and frustrated great attacks,” said Dpo Elahi.
He added that the situation was now under control and that the attackers had fled and retired to the mountains when the police took reprisals.
The forbidden Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan attributed the responsibility of attacks in a statement.
The attacker, Kashif alias Jarrar, was sought by the police for his role in terrorist activities in the area.
