Twenty -five people were taken to the hospitals after a Delta flight that went from Utah to Amsterdam experienced “significant turbulence” and had to land in Minneapolis on Wednesday, the airline said.
Flight DL56, who went from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, landed at the Minneapolis International Airport – Saint Paul, Delta said in a statement.
“The medical staff met with the flight upon arrival to evaluate customers and crew. Twenty -five of those on board were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and attention,” said the airline. “We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved.”
Minneapolis International Airport – Saint Paul said the flight landed safely around 7:45 pm, the airport fire department and EMS responded to the door to help those on board, he said.
“Security is our number 1 value in Delta, and our Delta Care team is working directly with customers to support their immediate needs,” said the airline.
The airline statement did not say how many passengers and crew were on board. The plane involved was an Airbus A330-900, he said. That type of plane has a maximum seat capacity of 465, according to the Airbus website.
In March, five passengers suffered what was described as minor injuries after United Flight experienced turbulence and made an emergency landing in Waco, Texas. Skywest Flight 5690 operating as United Express, a regional flight services by United Airlines. That flight was heading from Missouri to Houston.
