Trump’s folly – Newspaper – DAWN.COM

Donald Trump has reiterated his horrible plan to take care of Gaza and permanently displace his Palestinian residents. In a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan at the White House, the president of the United States pointed out his intention to advance with the scheme despite the global conviction.

“We are going to take it. We are going to hold it, we will appreciate it, ”Trump said, making it very clear that he sees Gaza not as the homeland of the 2.2 million Palestinians, but as a real estate piece to be seized and reused.

This last pronouncement only reinforces the fears of those who see the plan as a plan for ethnic cleaning. The proposed mass displacement of Gazans is equivalent to a serious violation of international law.

That Benjamin Netanyahu supports this scheme not surprising anyone: the Israeli prime minister has already made clear his vision of a ‘largest Israel’, which would see the Palestinian territories erased effectively. His map of a ‘new Middle East’, proudly exhibited at the UN, last year confirms his expansionist ambitions.

The reaction of the Arab world has been fast. King Abdullah, facing immense American pressure, has refused to support the plan. Egypt has rejected any movement that forces the Palestinians to their soil, while Saudi Arabia has described the proposal as an “unacceptable violation of Palestinian rights.”

The Arab League has also opposed Trump’s reckless vision. However, despite this overwhelming reaction, the Israeli prime minister and the president of the United States remain unchanged. Netanyahu has called the “notable” plan, while Trump has threatened to reduce Jordan aid if he refuses to absorb Palestinian refugees. Washington’s coercive tactics for strong arms to its allies to support a restructuring similar to an apartheid of the region betray its moral bankruptcy.

Trump’s plan will not bring peace; It will bring more devastation, radicalism and instability. The massive expulsion of the Palestinians will not end the conflict, it will ensure its perpetual escalation.

This last movement of the Trump administration also threatens the high fragile fire in Gaza, since the Palestinian groups see it as another attempt to erase their presence of their land. Hamas, for example, has already warned that he will not resume hostage versions in current conditions.

With tensions already at a breakdown, Trump’s dangerous scheme has only deepened uncertainty and agitation in the region.

The Trump-Nanyahu scheme is not only unfeasible, it is a moral abomination. The international community must not only reject it directly, but also ensure that those who promote such inhumanity are responsible. The world cannot afford to defend themselves as shameless violations of human rights develop. This is the Palestinian land. It is not on sale, and its people will not be deleted.
