The presidential physical conditioning test is returning.
President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Thursday afternoon by restoring the National Fitness evaluation implemented in public schools from 1956 to 2013, said a White House official to NBC News.
The role of administering the evidence will fall to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been a member in his concern for childhood obesity and whose report of “Make America Healy Again” in February attributed the issue, in part, to the Sedentary Life Styles.
The White House official said that Trump aims to address the decrease in the health and physical condition of Americans, including the “levels of crisis” of obesity, chronic diseases, inactivity and poor nutrition.
“President Trump wants all young Americans to have the opportunity to emphasize active and healthy lifestyles, creating a culture of strength and excellence in the coming years,” said White House Secretary, Karoline Leavitt in a statement.
The original presidential aptitude test was established under the Eisenhower administration in the 1950s and underwent several iterations in the coming decades. In general, students were asked to make a combination of flexions, pull-ups, abdominals, running and reaching the fingers of their feet while sitting. As of the 1960s, those with the highest physical conditioning scores were eligible to receive a presidential prize for physical conditioning.
Obama administration replaced the Fitness test after the 2012-13 school year with the presidential juvenile fitness program, which focused more on individual health than sports skills.
Trump’s executive order on Thursday assigns the president’s advice on sports, fitness and nutrition with the development criteria for a new presidential fitness award, said a White House official.
The president of the Council, the professional golfer Bryson Denhambeau, will be present at the firm on Thursday afternoon at the White House, said the official. They are also scheduled from other professional athletes, including the Kansas City bosses’ kicking, Harrison Butker, the football member Lawrence Taylor and the Swedish professional golfer Annika Sorestam.
