Trump to hold a White House meeting on TikTok as deadline nears

President Donald Trump will meet with vice president JD Vance and other advisors on Wednesday to discuss an offer for Tiktok as a deadline is approaching to maintain the application of social networks in the United States, two people familiar with the plans to NBC News said.

The Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, the national director of Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and national security advisor Michael Waltz participate in the Oval Office meeting, said one of the sources.

CBS News first reported the scheduled meeting. White House spokesmen did not immediately respond to additional details requests.

Tiktok’s fate in the United States has been in doubt since last year, when President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan legislation that forced the owner of the Chinese -based application, to sell it to a non -Chinese buyer or face a national prohibition. Such agreement was not arrived, and Trump extended the deadline through an executive order on his first day in office, effectively giving Tiktok until Saturday to find a solution that keeps it online. Trump also took advantage of Vance and Waltz to comb an agreement.

Vance said in an interview last month that he was optimistic that he would deliver a viable proposal before the new deadline.

“Surely there will be a high level agreement that I think satisfies our national security concerns, allows a Tiktok American company,” Vance said.

Rumors have revolved for months on potential buyers for the application, which has millions of users and has been valued at up to $ 50 billion. But few details have been shared publicly.

Wyoming Reid Rasner businessman, CEO of the Omnive Financial Heritage Management Company, told NBC News last month he offered $ 47.45 billion. Other suitors have also put their names in the race, including the co -founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian, who recently announced that he had joined an offer with businessman Frank McCourt.

Trump told journalists on Sunday aboard Air Force One that there are “many potential buyers” for Tiktok.

“There is a tremendous interest in Tiktok,” he said. “The decision will be my decision … We have a great team of people who think, essentially taking offers. We have many people who want to buy Tiktok. We are also dealing with China on it, because they can have something to do with that.”
