Washington-President Donald Trump criticized Senator Thom Tillis, RN.C. on Saturday, for his opposition to a bill that would finance much of his national agenda, threatening to meet with the main challengers to Tillis, which is postulated for re-election next year.
“Many people have presented themselves wanting to run in the primaries against ‘Senator Thom’ Tillis,” Trump wrote on Saturday night. “I will meet them in the coming weeks, looking for someone to adequately represent the great people of North Carolina and, so it is important, the United States of America.”
Trump criticized Tillis widely in a publication on his social media platform for his opposition to the financing measure, called “great and beautiful bill.” He arrived hours after Tillis said in a statement that “he cannot support this bill in his current form,” noting the expected cuts to Medicaid, he said that “it would result in tens of billions of dollars in lost funds for North Carolina, including our hospitals and rural communities.”
Trump in return, through Truth Social, accused the senator of two periods of great “to obtain some advertising for himself, for a possible but very difficult re -election.”
“It seems that Senator Thom Tillis, as always, means to the nation that he is giving them a tax increase of 68%, such as [he is] In opposition to the highest tax cut in American history! “Trump wrote, he added:” Thom Tillis is making a big mistake for the United States, and the wonderful people of North Carolina! ”
Tillis launched his re -election campaign of the Senate last December, but has faced calls to take aside due to concerns about his ability to win the race, particularly after the polls discovered that he followed the Democratic governor Roy Cooper in a hypothetical confrontation. Tillis won his two previous Senate races for less than two percentage points.
Before Trump’s post, Tillis told journalists on Saturday night that he gave the president a warning about his opposition during a call that characterized as “very professional” and “very respectful.”
“I had a very good discussion with President Trump last night. I told him at that time that I had problems with him [Medicaid] implementation. And I said that the bill of the House of Representatives would be a good brand, “Tillis said.” I think the president is really focused on making the fiscal part of the bill, and supporting it, stopped. But it has evolved from a tax invoice to one that includes medical care and other things. And I said that in areas without taxes, we have a problem. “
When asked if he was worried that Trump supported a main challenge for him, Tillis replied: “No.”
Trump has threatened with the primary legislators of the Republican Party criticism with him in the past, wielding his influence to disappoint the Republicans who voted to accuse him after the disturbance of the Capitol of January 6, including former representative Liz Cheney. Last week, two Trump advisors launched a Super Pac destined to eliminate representative Thomas Massie, Republican from R-Ky., Another frequent critic of the administration’s agenda.
However, Trump has not always followed the threats, opting against the support of a main challenger to Massie in 2024 and, according to Tampa Bay Times, defending a threat to attack a Florida state legislator who supported Governor Ron Desantis during the 2024 presidential cycle.
