Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on Monday to the president of the United States, Donald Trump, promised to work for global peace, prosperity and security. Amid the concerns in India about Trump’s threat to increase import rates of India and elsewhere, as well as the possible friction about illegal immigration, said Modi in a publication on X that both parties are compromised with a mutually beneficial and reliable association.
This was Modi’s first conversation with “My dear friend” Trump since the inauguration of the latter on January 20. While ties with the United States in areas such as Defense, Technology, Contribution, Energy and Space flourish even more during Trump’s second administration, fears remain on the possibly disruptive commercial policies of Trump and their threats of mass deportation.
According to the White House, Trump emphasized the importance of India increased its acquisition of security equipment manufactured in the United States and moving towards a “fair bilateral commercial relationship.” “The leaders discussed the plans so that Prime Minister Modi visits the White House, underlining the force of friendship and strategic ties between our nations,” said the White House reading.
“Nice to talk to my dear friend Donald Trump. He congratulated him for his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and reliable association. We will work together for the well -being of our people and towards global peace, prosperity and security, “Modi said in an X post on Monday night.
Modi and Trump discussed several facets of the wide comprehensive global strategic association and measures to advance in the areas of technology, commerce, investment, energy and defense, said the Indian government in a reading. The two leaders exchanged views on world issues, including the situation in Western Asia and Ukraine and agreed to meet soon.
The conversation was ahead of a possible meeting between the 2 leaders on the banks of the AI summit that France will organize next month. Trump has been invited to the summit and Modi has already confirmed his participation. India and the United States are also in diplomatically contact for a bilateral visit of Modi to the United States in the coming months, long before Trump travels to India for the Quad summit at the end of this year.
He also followed the meeting of the Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar with his counterpart, Marco Rubio, in which the old one raised issues related to the delay in the issuance of visas of the United States to Indian citizens and Rubio brought irregular migration of India. While Indian is open to recover illegal migrants, as it was with the Biden administration and even before with the first presidency of Trump, he wants enough time to first be able to verify the Indian origin of 18,000 illegal that US authorities have identified for the Indian deportation. Although the Indian government wants to work with the US authorities to address the issue, it has distanced itself from the number that says that any discussion about the numbers will be premature at this stage. For the United States, India remains one of the largest sources of illegal immigration outside of Latin America.
