President Donald Trump said Friday that he will ask US Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s relationship with former President Bill Clinton and other prominent Democrats and financial institutions.
“Now that Democrats are using the Epstein hoax, which involves Democrats, not Republicans, to try to deflect his disastrous shutdown and all of his other failures, I will ask Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, along with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, JP Morgan, Chase, and many other individuals and institutions, to determine what was going on. We stand with them and with him,” Trump said in a lengthy post on his social media platform Truth Social, adding: “This is another Russia, Russia, Russia scam, with all the arrows pointing to the Democrats.”
NBC News has reached out to representatives for Clinton, Hoffman, Summers and JPMorgan Chase for comment. None of the people Trump appointed to his position have been accused of wrongdoing in the Epstein case.
JPMorgan Chase reached a $75 million settlement with the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2023 over a lawsuit that accused the bank of facilitating Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking enterprise for years, NBC News previously reported. The deal did not “involve an admission of liability,” the bank said at the time, adding that it regretted any association with Epstein and would not have done business with him “if I believed he was in any way using the bank to commit heinous crimes.”
The release comes after the House Oversight Committee this week released thousands of emails from Epstein’s estate, including many that referenced Trump’s connections to the convicted sex offender, who died in jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019.
In one of the emails, Epstein said Trump “knew about the girls” but did not directly accuse him of any crime. In another, she said Trump had been to her house “many times” but “never got a massage.”
