Donald Trump announced Friday that Boeing received the contract for the next-generation of the Air Force, that the 47th President of the United States said he would be appointed F-47.
“Nothing in the world even approaches him, and will be known as F-47. The generals chose a title, and is a beautiful number, F-47,” Trump said in the White House.
The contract aims to develop the replacement for the JET F-22, which has been in operation for about two decades, with a new and more advanced plane capable of operating together with unbeatted drones.
“After rigorous and exhaustive competition among some of the main United States aerospace companies, the Air Force will grant the contract for the next -generation air domain platform (NGAD) to Boeing,” Trump said in televised comments in the Oval Office.
He said the contract price could not be revealed for security reasons.
The Secretary of Defense, Pete Heghseth, speaking with Trump, said that the new plane “sends a very direct and clear message to our allies that we will not go anywhere, and our enemies … We can project power throughout the world without obstacles to the coming generations.”
The announcement is a blessing for Boeing, which faced a difficult last year in which he fought with a long work strike and security problems in his civil planes.
Around 16:25 GMT on Friday, Boeing shares were negotiated more in the New York Stock Exchange, winning 4.78 percent to reach $ 181.09.
‘Practically invisible’
Ngad’s effort stopped in 2024 for cost concerns, an important approach to the Trump administration, which has commissioned the multimillionaire donor Elon Musk to reduce government spending through the Government’s efficiency department.
The Congress Budget Office estimated in 2018 that NGAD fuselage could cost up to $ 300 million each, significantly more than other aircraft currently in the United States inventory.
In 2024, “officials question whether the Air Force could be allowed to develop the NGAD together with programs, including the B-21 Raider Bomber and the replacement of ICBM Minuteman III,” said the Congress Research Service in a report earlier this year.
A senior officer of the Air Force said earlier this month that the service conducted a study after the pause, which concluded that “not only in the past, not only in the present but in the future, aerial superiority is important.”
“What this study told us is that we try a lot of different options and there is no more viable option than NGAD to achieve the superiority of the air in this highly disputed environment,” said Major General Joseph Kunkel to the AFA War Symposium in Colorado.
The F-47 will replace the F-22 Raptor, which presents stealthy technology, a high degree of maneuverability and the ability to superscribe, or maintain supersonic flight without post-governors.
Little is known about the abilities of F-47, but Trump said the new plane will be “practically invisible” with unique maneuverability and power, and the ability to fly “with many drones, as many as we want, and that is something that no other plane can do.”
