The tropical storm Chantal has touched land in South Carolina at dawn on Sunday morning while officials warn about sudden floods and surfing currents “that threaten life” as the storm system moves towards the interior.
Tropical storm warnings are in force for parts of the Carolinas, from the South Santee River, South Carolina, to Surf City, North Carolina, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
He said that the storm conditions are expected until Sunday morning, and that heavy rain through parts of the northeast of South Carolina and North Carolina could cause sudden floods.
“Chantal is expected to bring surfings in life threats and brim currents along the coast from the northeast of Florida to the states of the middle Atlantic during the next day more or less,” he said.
The images captured in North Myrtle Beach showed strong winds that hit the coast and rough waves in the distance. In another video, the sand blew along the beach with bursts of around 25-30 miles per hour that trembled the palm trees while the rays appeared behind.
Chantal had maximum sustained winds of around 50 mph in Landfall, which occurred in Litchfield Beach, South Carolina.
The tropical storm Chantal was formed on the southeast coast of the United States and was predicted to bring heavy rains to parts of the Carolinas on Saturday.
Heavy rains were forecast for the coastal plain of the Carolinas until Monday, with total rain of 2 to 4 inches and local quantities of up to 6 inches
