DEHRADUN: A UP worker was killed and another seriously injured when a cable of the lift car carrying workers on an under-construction bridge over the Alaknanda river broke on Saturday night, officials said.
The incident took place when construction work was underway on the bridge in Rudraprayag district to link the Gaurikund and Badrinath highways as part of the Char Dham all-weather road project.
Rudraprayag disaster management officer NK Rajwar told TOI on Sunday: “The accident occurred when the lift car was carrying workers. Four of them who were stranded in the car were safely rescued by the Disaster Response Force. of the District in an operation that continued until midnight.
The deceased, identified as Wasim, 40, belonged to Saharanpur, while Prince, 28, who sustained injuries was shifted to a nearby community health center and later shifted to another medical center in Srinagar, Rajwar added.
Notably, the bridge is being built by a private company for the National Highways Authority of India, as part of the Char Dham all-weather highway project.
