They felt tremors of an earthquake of magnitude of 6.0 in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the early hours of Monday, according to the authorities, but no victims or damage were reported.
According to the State Payment television that cited the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan, the earthquake was recorded at 12:18 am
He added that the tremors felt in Peshawar, Manshera, Abbottabad, Hagu, Malakand, Swat, Chitral, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
A spokesman for the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers with its epicenter located to the southwest of Asadabad, Afghanistan.
Shocks were also felt in India and Tayikistan.
After the tremors, the district administrations in Punjab began building inspections to evaluate structural security.
“However, so far no victims or damage have been reported,” confirmed the general director of PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia.
The PDMA declared that its provincial control room and all the emergency operation centers of the district remain on alert 24/7.
Citizens have been urged to inform the earthquake related losses or emergencies by calling the PDMA help line to 1129.
Pakistan falls to three important tectonic plates, Arabic, Euro-Asian and Indian, which create five seismic areas under the country. Multiple failure intersection means that tectonic movements remain a frequent occurrence in the region.
