Three people died and one was injured after a car hit a motorcycle in the underground passage of Dright Road of Karachi on Monday, authorities said.
The city has recently witnessed an increase in traffic accidents, especially that they involve heavy vehicles, including Dumpers and water oil tankers, which killed almost 500 people and wounded 4,879 in 2024, according to hospital data.
A district police spokesman said that the accident took place within the limits of the Sharea Faisal Police Station.
“According to the initial information, a car hit a motorcycle, causing serious injuries to passers -by who were taken to the hospital,” said the spokesman.
He added that the car driver had been arrested and that the vehicle was in custody.
The Karachi Edhi Information Center confirmed three deaths, including two men and an unidentified woman, added that another woman was injured. All were taken to the Jinnah hospital through the Embulance of Edhi.
The Traffic Police has issued an alert that Dright Road’s underground step is blocked due to the incident, saying that an accident analysis team was inspecting the site.
“Traffic is deviating on the underground step,” he added, directing citizens to the traffic police help line in 1915 to choose alternative routes.
Last week, a frontal collision that involves a passenger coach and two pills on the Queta-Karachi road killed at least nine people, including police staff, and left eight other wounds.
Earlier this month, a couple was hit and killed by a Dumpers truck in the Karachi Sultanabad area.
