Ha Long Bay, Vietnam – A boat that transported tourists taken over a sudden thunderstorm in Vietnam on Saturday afternoon during a tourist excursion, killing 34 people, state media reported. Eight others remain missing.
Wonder’s ship was carrying 48 passengers and five crew members, all of them Vietnamese, during the tour of Ha Long Bay, a popular destination for visitors, according to reports.
The rescue workers saved 11 people and recovered the dead near the site of the overthrow, said the Vnexpress newspaper. Twenty -three people remain missing. The authorities previously reported that 12 people had been rescued, but then reviewed the figure to 11.
The boat was put face down due to strong winds, said the newspaper. A 14 -year -old was among the survivors, and was rescued four hours after being trapped in the helmet.
The newspaper said that most passengers were tourists, including about 20 children, from Hanoi, the capital of the country.
A tropical storm is also moving towards the area. A national weather forecast said that Storm Wipha will reach the northern region of Vietnam, including the coast of Ha Long Bay next week.
