American prosecutors gave a graphic account on Wednesday of torture and the murder of a transgender man whose case has highlighted the growing dangers faced by the trans community.
Sam Nordquist was kidnapped, beaten and sexually assaulted for weeks before his body was hidden, prosecutors said, announcing that seven adults had been accused of the murder of the 24 -year -old Black.
Nordquist traveled from Minnesota to New York to know an online contact that was among the defendants on Wednesday.
Nordquist’s family had not had his news since January, and the last time he was seen was at the beginning of February.
The seven suspects had been previously accused of minor crimes, with the position of first degree murder, on Wednesday the possible perpetual chain prison of the State without probation.
Supposedly, two children were also involved in Nordquist’s beating, who was brutalized in a motel in Canandaigua, located in the state of New York.
“Sam was beaten, attacked, sexually abused, hungry, held captive, and we cannot make sense of that,” said Ontario County Assistant District, Kelly Wolford, in an informative session.
Wolford said that hate crime charges had not been brought because “we cannot put that in their gender, and we cannot put that in its race.”
“Sam was confined. He was forced to kneel and stand against a wall. He was physically assaulted, ”Wolford added by telling that it was believed that the two children were involved in Nordquist’s beating.
“We have a seven -year -old boy and a 12 -year -old boy who are also victims. They may have been forced to participate, but their lives change forever for what they saw, ”he said.
It is alleged that the seven adult suspects have starved to Nordquist, fed him and forced him to drink urine.
“They forced him to obey his orders, treating him as a dog,” Wolford said.
The case has shaken the trans community and indignant activists.
“We refuse to let Sam’s story fade in silence. We demand responsibility, we demand justice and demand a world where transgender people are safe, respected and capable of living freely, “said Sarah Kate Ellis, president of the Glaad LGBTQ campaign group, in a statement last month.
Glaad reported that there were more than 800 Anti-Trans incidents in the United States since June 2022.
Trump campaigned in the promise of prohibiting the transgender people of the army, prohibiting federal funds for trans medical care and eliminating trans people from sports teams.
Since he arrived at office, he approved a series of executive orders aimed at the community, including the purge mentions of transgender people of government websites and cutting LGBTQ programs.
On his first day back in power, Trump signed an executive order that recognized only “two genres, men and women.”
