Toronto is among the most contaminated cities in the world on Monday morning, since the city continues under a special declaration of air quality for the third consecutive day.
Environment Canada said that the smoke of forest fires is expected to continue impacting much of southern Ontario on Monday and can persist until Tuesday before finally relieving.
“The quality and visibility of the air due to the smoke of forest fires can fluctuate in short distances and can vary considerably from one hour to another,” said Enviedment Canada in a special declaration of air quality issued on Monday morning.
The statement is also in force for Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Burlington, Oakville, Halton Hills, Milton, Pickering and Oshawa.
Toronto took third place in a List of the most polluted cities in the world Until Sunday morning, according to a global classification of Iqair, a Swiss air quality technology company.
Environment Canada suggests that people limit the time outdoors and consider reprogramming sports, activities and outdoor events due to smoke levels.
Young children, older people, pregnant people or people with an existing disease or chronic health condition are more vulnerable to poor air quality.
Symptoms may include eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches and soft cough. While it is not so common, Canada’s environment says that severe chest pains or cough are also potential symptoms.
The National Meteorological Agency also advises people to keep their windows and doors closed and verify other people who live closely that are more likely to be affected by outdoor air pollution.
