The Tiktok social networks platform launched a new search guide designed to help users in Pakistan access authoritarian and updated information during the monsoon flood season, according to a press release issued by its public relations firm.
With the beginning of the Monzón season, which usually lasts from the end of June to September, different parts of the country are witnesses of heavy rains and a greater risk of extreme climatic events such as sudden floods and landslides, especially in its northern and western regions.
“Now, users looking for updates related to floods on Tiktok will now see a prominent banner that urges them to verify the information through credible sources,” reads the press release.
“This guide connects users directly to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), from where users in Pakistan can access verified information about natural disasters,” he added.
The guide also connects users with the resources of the Tiktok security center and provides a direct link to the tragic Tiktok event support guide, which offers practical support for people affected by distressing incidents.
The guide defines what constitutes a tragic event, from natural disasters to personal loss, and provides users with information on the search for mental health support and sharing in a responsible way or informing content related to these events.
“We understand that during crisis times, access to timely and precise information is critical,” said statistics by citing Fahad Muhammad Khan Niazi, Tiktok’s head of public policy and government relations in Pakistan.
“By associating with organizations that work directly with the disaster response and make these resources more visible to our community, our goal is to support the informed decision making and guarantee user security.”
Earlier this month, the Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, stressed the urgency of addressing the growing threats of misinformation and misinformation.
