Three inmates accused of escaping the main blockade of New Orleans in one of Louisiana’s largest jailbreaks have been arrested, leaving two in general, authorities said Monday.
Jermaine Donald, 42, who was imprisoned for second -degree murder positions and other crimes before escaping, was arrested in Texas with another inmate accused of fleeing from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16, said Liz Murrill, the attorney general of Louisiana, Liz Murrill.
That inmate, Leo Tate, 31, had been in custody for charges of robbery and firearms, Murrill said.
The Texas Public Security Department arrested the two men in Walker County, north of Houston, said Sheriff’s Office of the Orleans parish in a statement.
Separate, Lenton Vanburen, 26, who was imprisoned for firearms and positions of probation rape, was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said the city police department in a statement.
The three inmates will face additional charges, Murrill said in a statement. It was not clear immediately if they have lawyers to speak in their name.
Several people, including a prison maintenance worker, have been accused of helping in the escape.
Sterling Williams, who was accused of beginning to a simple escape and embezzlement in office, cut the water to the bathroom of a cell so that the inmates could eliminate it without flooding the area, Murrill alleged in a press release last week.
According to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant, Williams told the authorities that one of the inmates who escaped threatened to “see” if he did not help.
That inmate, identified in the document as Antoine Massey, has not been arrested.
After removing the toilet, he alleges the affidavit, the inmates attacked steel bars and escaped through a hole in the wall before climbing a spike wire fence with blankets.
A photo published by the authorities showed the phrases “To Easy Lol” and “We Innocent” written about the toilet.
