Thousands without power, flights grounded

An imposing dust cloud caused ravages in Arizona on Monday, with ground flights and leaving thousands without energy.

The slow cloud, known as Haboeob, hit parts of Phoenix and Arizona City, 60 miles southeast, Monday afternoon, at one time, leaving 15,000 energy clients in the dark. The number still without energy on Tuesday morning was more than 5,000 according to Poweroutage.us, mainly in Maricopa County.

The videos published on social networks showed whole neighborhoods wrapped in the dark while the dust storm advanced. A video filmed from a pass that passes showed the extension of the cloud, stretching during miles in the distance.
