More than 9,000 Newfoundland Power customers are in the dark Sunday as the province faces a winter storm with snow, rain and high winds.
Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for most of Newfoundland and parts of Labrador, with mixed weather forecasts throughout the day into Monday morning.
Western Newfoundland is expected to see about 10 centimeters of snow along with winds of 80 kilometers per hour, which could cause poor driving conditions and low visibility on roads.
Likewise, low visibility is expected in the surroundings of Port aux Basques, where up to 15 centimeters of snow and winds of 100 kilometers per hour are expected.
In the St. John area, the meteorological agency forecasts rainfall of between 20 and 40 millimeters, which could cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
In eastern and northeastern Newfoundland, Environment Canada is warning of wind gusts of between 90 and 120 kilometers per hour, which the weather agency says could cause damage to shingles and windows.
