After being attacked with a gardening tool, obtaining five suture points and spending a night waiting in the emergency room, Beverly Hill, 75, returned this week to the community garden where the incident occurred.
“It hurts a little, but I think I hurt my pride more,” said the Senior, referring to his right arm that is in a white bandage.
“I thought I could have taken it … I’m not an old 75,” he said, “I do things. I stay active and maybe that’s why I could drive myself even though I couldn’t catch her.”
The Saskatoon police have accused a woman from Prince Albert, 27 years old for the assault, who left Hill hair threads in the tomato patch where it happened.
Hill said it all started when he went for a walk with his dog, Sprite, around 4:30 PM CST on Thursday, in the community garden behind the John Dolan school in the neighborhood of Saskatoon EastView.
It was then that he saw a young woman who moved from the garden plot to the garden plot.
After seeing the woman for several minutes, Hill said he called to ask if the woman had a plot in the garden.
“Maybe I’m a bit too protective with people who work so hard in these gardens,” said Hill, who recently resigned from his plot in the garden. “You know, it shouldn’t be destroyed.”
The woman murmured something that Hill said she could not understand, before moving to another area of the community garden.
Hill said that the woman left if he did not have a plot. Then, the woman approached Hill, muttering more things she couldn’t understand, Hill said.
“I didn’t realize that I had this shovel in my hand,” he said, describing a tool like a garden plain.
The woman got on Hill’s face, “still muttering incoherently. In retrospect, Hill said he should have realized that the woman was in some kind of substance.
Hill again asked the woman to leave.
“Before realizing, she says: ‘Well, do you want to fight?'” He said Hill.
Hill said the woman grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground, then could not recover her balance once she was on the ground, “otherwise, I would have risen and try to fight her.”
Hill said she used her right arm to protect her head when the woman hit her with the gardening tool, and her dog tried to interpose between them.
Hill said the woman backed away and began to move away slowly from her, and Hill could stand up and call 911.
Grateful for the police response
In less than 15 minutes, the police arrived with a police canine, five officers and three police cars, said Hill.
She said she is grateful to the officers to come to her rescue and her “diligent work.” The officers were able to find the 27 -year -old woman in a bush near her arrival.
According to a press release from the Saskatoon police, the woman is accused of aggravated assault, assaulting a peace officer, breach of the company and the violation of probation. Police say that the woman hit a special female agent on her face while hiring her in custody.
Police said the woman also had outstanding arrest orders in Prince Albert.
Hill spent Thursday night in the emergency room and left with two great arm wounds that required approximately five points of suture, and several cuts in his hand.
“They can’t stay depressed regardless of what,” he said, “I am a soaked.”
But Hill said he will adopt a different approach in the future.
“I think I will go back the next time I enter something and ignore it,” said Hill.
“I’m not afraid. That’s the problem,” he said.
