The good news for the Kansas City Chiefs: they are no longer won after a 22-9 victory over New York giants in “Sunday Night Football.”
The bad news? Chiefs still do not resemble the team that has reached at least the AFC championship game every year since 2018, and its offensive once powerful is still dismantled in the best case.
Upon entering week 3 with a 0-2 record, Kansas City desperately needed a victory in any way that one could get one on Sunday. However, for a team with a legendary field marshal and aspirations of the Super Bowl, the ugliness of the offensive work of the Chiefs against the giants left much to be able to advance.
“Good victory to get, particularly when you haven’t had one,” said Chief coach Andy Reid later.
Field Marshal Patrick Mohomes finished game 22 of 37 for 224 yards and a touchdown, with an 85.9 pin rating. You still have to break a 90.0 pin qualification so far this season, despite having a 101.8 race brand before Sunday.
And his game so-so not necessarily did not reach a great defense: the total mahomes and 6.1 yards passes for attempt were the lowest for any field marshal who has played in New York this year.
In general, through three games, the mahomes pin qualification, the yards for attempt and the percentage of completion would be professional minimums if they continued for the rest of the season.
“I feel we were moving the ball in the right way,” Mohamses said after the game. “We have to clean things and improve and improve.”
He added: “For us, just execute all the way along a trip and see that, that is what we want to be. We have to continue doing it more frequently.”
To be fair, the receptive body of Mohamses still leaves much to be desired, even if Tyquan Thornton had some pleasant moments in the second half against New York. Kansas City still does not have a player with more than 100 yards who receive in a single game but so far this year.
Travis Kelce, once one of the most feared closed wing in the League, has 10 trapped for 134 yards in three games. It is in pace for 759 yards that they receive this season, which would be the lowest brand of your career, a year after establishing a new race in 2024 (and that is with the recent benefit of a 17th regular season game).
Perhaps in an attempt to depderme, Reid was caught in a heated conversation with Kelce at the end of the second quarter, with him and the wing closed hitting the chests.
“He is a passionate guy and I love that part,” Reid said about the exchange. “I have gone through many things with him, everything is part of that. I love that he loves to play.”
The offensive was not alone in their struggles, since the mistakes of the Chiefs extended to the entire team.
Harrison Butker lost multiple kicks, including a field goal and an extra point.
Kansas City committed eight penalties for 85 yards, including multiple in an impulse of the first half that led to a touchdown of the giants.
It was not exactly a great effort of the Chiefs, who were rescued largely due to two interceptions of Russell Wilson, as well as a strange decision of Wilson apparently throwing the ball at the end of the room and goal.
“We have been looking for a victory and try to discover how we can start this,” said supporter Nick Bolton. “The main thing is now to continue working, continue stacking and tries to get another, then get another victory.”
For now, Kansas City is happy to go out with a victory. But it is difficult to imagine that the team rises to the top of the AFC with more performances such as Sunday.
Only two of the next eight opponents of the Chiefs have a record of less than .500, and both competitions will be against the divisional rivals. Meanwhile, for the next two months, Kansas City will have to play with the Baltimore Ravens, the Detroit lions, Buffalo Bills, the Washington commanders and the Indianapolis colts currently undefeated, all of which have been much more impressive at the beginning of the season.
Ultimately, Chiefs took care of businesses against a minor enemy on Sunday. However, if Kansas City continues in its current career, it still does not resemble the type of team that could live up to its past success.
