The Pop singer of Montreal, Charlotte Cardin, won the Billboard Canada inaugural award, the award a year in 2024, and has just announced the Toronto The Beaches rock band as the winner of this year.
While Billboard has celebrated his Women In Music event annually since 2007, Billboard Canada launched his Toronto event last year and the honors included Alanis Morissette, Jully Black and Jessie Reyez.
Almost a year after winning, Cardin sat for an interview with the host of Iheartradio Shannon Burns, where he opened an envelope revealing the beaches as the beneficiaries of the honor of the women of the year of 2025 Billboard Canada.
“I’m so happy for them!” Cardin said, opening the envelope and smiling. “He is very deserved. They have been killing him for a long time. They are really, very incredible girls.”
Cardin and Burns called the band members, who thought Cardin was calling to talk to them about their new and third album, Without resentmentsthat fell on August 29. Instead, she broke Billboard’s news, which was followed by much emotion and thanks.

The beaches, which include members Jordan and Kylie Miller, Eliza Enman-Mcdaniel and Leandra Earl, will accept the Billboard Women in Music award on October 1 in Toronto, approximately six months after winning the Juno award for the group of the year for the second time.
“If you look at the statistics, it is very evident that, you know, there is still a lot of work to do,” Cardin said in his interview. “There are less than 15 percent of the total industry that is represented by women. We are talking about musicians and technicians and producers and artists and managers. That is quite crazy because we represent 50 percent of the population. Therefore, I think that initiatives such as the woman of the year of Billboard are so important and special.”
Billboard Women in Music of 2025 will continue to announce throughout September.
