Texas state senator Angela Paxton said Thursday that she had requested her husband’s divorce, state attorney general Ken Paxton, who challenges American senator John Cornyn in a Republican primary.
“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I requested divorce for biblical reasons,” said Angela Paxton in X. He added that he made his decision “in the light of recent discoveries.”
She did not immediately respond to an additional request for details. Ken Paxton’s office and campaign did not immediately respond to comments requests on Thursday.
Ken Paxton said in X shortly after his wife’s announcement that they had “decided to start a new chapter in our lives”, following what he described as “innumerable political attacks.”
“I could not be more proud or grateful for the incredible family with whom God has blessed us, and I remain committed to support our incredible children and grandchildren. I ask for their prayers and privacy at this time,” he added.
The Paxton faced scrutiny after a political trial led by the state Senate against Ken Paxton in 2023. He faced accusations of corruption and was acquitted, but the trial also mentioned the accusations of infidelity. His former head of Cabinet, Katherine Cary, said an alleged matter with another woman caused tension in the office, according to Kut News Radio de Austin.
Ken Paxton did not testify in his political trial judgment. Cary, however, testified that he admitted in the matter, according to Texas Tribune.
On Thursday, the National Committee of Republican Senatories criticized Ken Paxton, who was first chosen to the State Attorney General in 2014 and said in April that he would challenge Cornyn for his seat in the Senate.
“What Ken Paxton has gone through his family is really repulsive and disgusting,” said NRSC spokeswoman Joanna Rodríguez, in X. “No one should have to endure what Angela Pxton has, and we pray for her while she wishes to defend himself for her and her family during this difficult time.”
The leader of the majority of the Senate, John Thune, RS.D., met with President Donald Trump in the White House on Wednesday to discuss the Senate’s careers.
Thune told NBC News on Thursday that the meeting “covered a wide range of races throughout the country.” A main Republican strategist who worked in the Senate races confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that Texas was scheduled to discuss.
When asked if he had preference in Texas’s career, Thune said: “We need an eligible candidate who can win not only a primary, but a general, and we believe there is a path for Cornyn to win both.”
Cornyn was first chosen for the Senate in 2002.
Trump does not have publicly He supported Cornyn in the next elections.
