Terrorist attacks on 4 police stations in Lakki Marwat, Bannu repelled – Pakistan

Four police stations in the districts of Bannu and Lakki Marwat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were attacked during the night by terrorists, but they were repelled and no victims were reported, authorities said on Saturday.

Pakistan has witnessed an increase in terrorist activities during the past year, especially in KP and Baluchistan, after the forbidden Pakistan of Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) ended the high fire with the government in November 2022.

According to the official statements issued by the police, the terrorists attacked two police stations in Lakki Marwat last night, while two police officers were injured in an explosion on the road. Meanwhile, two other police stations and a checkup were attacked in Bannu.

The prohibited TTP attributed the responsibility of all these attacks in the two districts in separate statements.

A Declaration of the Lakki Marwat police said the terrorists attacked the Dadiwala and Pezo police stations on Friday night, but “both attacks were repelled due to the timely action by the police.” No victims were reported in any of the assaults.

However, the statement added that two police officers were injured while one of the attackers died in the retaliation action when a road pump attacked a police vehicle on the Landiwah road by Lakki Marwat.

Police said the militants carried out an explosive explosion of improvised explosive device on Friday, wounding two police officers, including the driver.

An attacker was also killed “due to the timely action by the police,” according to the statement, added that a search operation was carried out to stop his accomplice.

The attached commissioner of Lakki Marwat, Zeeshan Abdullah, had issued a threat alert yesterday, according to the police.

In Bannu, the unidentified men attacked the Khhojri Police post, as well as the hand grenades and opened fire at the Ghoriwala and Bakakhel police stations on Friday night, police said.

“The armed motorcyclists threw two hand grenades in the Khojri police post. After the attack on the police post, the village elders went out with weapons to protect the police post, ”said the police in a statement.

He quoted the locals saying that they would protect the control post and that people, together with the police, “crowned lemas from Long to the Police.”

Regarding the attack of unidentified armed men in the Police stations of Ghoriwala and Bakakhel, the statement said the police “responded vigorously and the attackers fled.”

No victims were reported in the attacks, the police added.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the police for his timely action and frustrating the attacks.

“The unwavering role of the KP Police in the war on terrorism is commendable,” he said in a statement about X.

Cowardly attacks cannot demoralize the police: KP IGP

After the frustrated attacks, the KP Police Inspector (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed in a statement paid tribute to the staff for repelling the assaults.

“The cowardly attacks of terrorists in the dark of the night cannot demoralize the police personnel,” said the KP police chief.

“The young people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s police force are fighting like a brick wall against terrorists,” said Ig Hameed, promising that “all terrorist tactics will be frustrated with an iron fist” with the public’s support.

“We will fight firmly until terrorism is eradicated,” said the PGI, announcing certificates of recommendation and cash rewards for soldiers.

Earlier this month, an attack on Bannu’s cliff in the homonymous district left five martyred soldiers, while 16 terrorists were killed in the response. Due to the destruction caused by explosions, 13 civilians, including six children, lost their lives, while another 32 were injured.

In the anti -terrorist efforts after the attack, the security forces killed three terrorists in the KP Tanks District. On Thursday, 10 terrorists were eliminated who tried to attack a check in the KP Jandola area.

Pakistan took second place in the 2025 global terrorism index, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks that increased by 45 percent during the past year to 1,081.

February saw a marginal increase in terrorist attacks, but witnessed a strong increase in civil victims, according to a report published by the group of experts based in Islamabad, the Institute of Conflict Studies and Security of Pakistan (PETS).
