Teens charged with murder nearly a year after cyclist on way to work was intentionally hit by stolen vehicle

The video released on Tuesday shows the moments before when, according to New Mexico, a stolen vehicle full of young people attacked intentionally and killed a bike traveler.

The cell phone video was launched a day after the adolescent that the police said he was arrested for murder, Albuquerque police said Tuesday.

The 13 -year -old accused of driving and the other two in the car when the cyclist was killed last year are “fugitive” and “abandoned,” said Mayor Tim Keller at a press conference.

“These children are murderers,” he said.

The passengers had 15 and 11 at that time. The youngest is too young for criminal prosecution, police said.

The Police Department announced Tuesday night that the 11 -year -old had been arrested but were still looking for the 15 -year -old.

The Department of Children, Youth and State families will take the custody of the 11 -year -old and evaluate it, police said. That agency stopped him in June, police said.

Police chief Harold Medina said at Tuesday’s press conference with Keller that the child at that time could not be processed or confined effectively due to his age.

Older children have been accused of murder, conspiracy to commit a murder, leaving the scene of a collision that implies injuries or illegal death and possession of a firearm, police said in the statement.

The youth unit of the Public Defender of the State for the Albuquerque area did not immediately respond to a request for comments. Juveniles in the Child Court are automatically assigned to public defenders, according to New Mexico’s law offices of the Public Defender.

Scott Dwight Haber Mehl, 63, Ph.D. The physicist of Corrales, a community to 16 miles north of Albuquerque, was killed on May 29. He was bike his work as a military contractor in Sandia National Laboratories when he was beaten, police said.

“Scott mounted his bicycle with the helmet in a bicycle lane with a safety light on when he was hit by a car, and the car left,” police comedy. Kyle Hartsock said at the press conference.

According to a detailed obituary published by Daniels Family Funerals & Creation, the contributions of having me in Sandia, where he was also remembered as a mentor and academic, led to six patents and included work to maintain radiation resistant computer microchips.

“These are techniques that are still used to this day for national security applications and spaces,” said the obituary.

He and his partner, Dr. Jamie Philpott, a veterinarian from the Albuquerque area, have two adult children, said, added that having recently completed the construction of a house in Leadville, Colorado, a historic city surrounded by some of the highest peaks of the rocky mountains, as a family retreat.

Initially, the case was considered a blow and escape, authorities said.

“The case was actually closed awaiting more potential clients,” said Hartsock, who supervises the Criminal Investigation Division of the Police Department and any homicide probe, at the press conference.

In February, two young people reported the existence of the video to a father and a school administrator, police said. It was supposedly taken from the interior of the stolen vehicle that hit me and then sent to Instagram, Hartsock said.

The video helped investigators identify the three young people and obtain arrest orders last week for two of them, according to the police. The young people had had previous failures with the police and were relatively easy to find, said the commander.

Police chief Harold Medina described the three young people as friends who were on the radar of the officers about this time last year.

Police said the recording includes audio in which the 15 -year -old can be listened to encouraging the 13 -year -old, who say he was driving, simply hit him, Brah. ” The video indicates that the vehicle accelerated before there were me, police said in Tuesday’s statement.

“The front passenger, who believes he was the 11 -year -old boy who was shaking a gun, bent down and laughed when the front, the side of the passenger of the vehicle hit me there,” police said in the statement.

The statement continued: “There were strong sounds, including metal flexion, since the impulse of the accident transported me and its bicycle at the top, and outside the passenger of the vehicle.”

The 13 -year -old was arrested on Monday. He was on youth probation, and probation officials were able to help the police to locate him, said Medina.

The 15 -year -old who the police are looking for last year was suspicious in the robberies of Timbre, participating in a robbery of beer, alcohol and cigarettes of $ 15,000, and a shooting in Les Minor, the police said.
