A teenager was allegedly killed by his uncle on Monday in a case of ‘honor’ murder in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Battagram district.
The incident occurs a few days after the murder of a man and a woman in the degari area of Quetta by order of a tribal jirga ahead of Eidul Azha by the so -called ‘honor’. Subsequently, the police had arrested at least 14 suspects for their participation in the incident.
According to Public Relations officer of the Battagram Police, Ghulam Nabi, “the victim’s uncle supposedly shot her niece in the name of honor.”
A first information report (FIR) dated August 4, seen by Dawn.comHe said the incident occurred during the early hours of Monday.
In the FIR, the suspect confessed that he had been invited at his brother’s house for two days. “My brother left at night and told me to take care of the house,” said the Fir Citó.
He also said he heard the sound of the door of the house that opened around 2 in the morning, which led him to wake up.
“Using a flashlight, I saw that my niece was at the door and went out with three people.”
Seeing his niece leaving the house, he shot the victim and the cartridge was exhausted, the fir said.
The suspect said that the victim’s mother gave him a gun, adding: “After chasing them, I deliberately fired Zahida Bibi out of honor.”
The shot killed the girl and wounded a boy, while the other two people fled the scene, said the FIR.
Police arrested the suspect and recovered the weapons used in the crime.
The case was recorded at the Battagram City Police Station under sections 302 (murder), 324 (murder attempt) and 311 (Ta’zir after the exemption or aggravation of the right of qisas in Qatl-i-Amd) of the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC) and section 15 AA-KPK.
Last week, a couple was shot dead by the women’s family for ‘honor’ in the Mastung district of Baluchistan.
On July 26, a Rawalpindi court sent three suspects to police custody for an alleged murder and a case of “honor” murder of a newly married woman.
The police had initiated the investigation based on the information that a woman had been killed in the name of ‘Honor’ in Pirwadhai, after a jirga in which members of both families participated.
When the woman’s family and in -laws realized that the police were secretly investigating the incident, the deceased’s husband registered a case with the police under section 496a. Police sources said the case was registered by the husband the same day that the woman was allegedly killed by suffocation with a pillow.
In Pakistan, ‘honor’ murders continued to claim the lives of women throughout 2024, perpetuated by deeply rooted social beliefs about family dignity and shame.
Pakistan Human Rights Commission data show that in 2024, ‘honor’ murders continued to be a serious problem in all Pakistan, with particularly high figures in Sindh and Punjab. From January to November, a total of 346 people were victims of “honoring” crimes in the country.
