Tampa, Fla. – The Rays pitcher, Hunter Bigge, was taken out the field in a terrifying scene and taken to a hospital after being beaten in the face by a dirty ball aligned in the Tampa Bay cap on Thursday night.
Bigge was placed on a board and gave a thumb up before being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for the tests. He never lost consciousness and was able to talk with the lifeguards, said Rays manager Kevin Cash.
In the upper part of the seventh inning, the receptor of the Baltimore Orioles, Adley Rutschman, sharply took out a launch in the Tampa Bay shelter on the side of the first base and the ball hit Bigge, a 27 -year -old right currently in the injured list.
The emergency medical staff quickly arrived to attend Bigge. After several quiet minutes, while the visibly worried rays players knelt in the field, Bigge loaded on a stretcher and detached.
After the game, Cash said Bigge was beaten in the face. The ball left Rutschman’s bat to 105 mph, according to Statcast.
