Suspect arrested in killing of couple hiking with daughters in Arkansas


A suspect was arrested for the murder of a couple who was attacked on an Arkansas hiking route on Saturday, state police said Wednesday.

James Andrew McGann, 28, from Springdale, was arrested at 4:57 PM Wednesday in a business in Springdale and is accused of two positions of capital murder, said Arkansas State Police in a statement.

He is accused of killing Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, who were attacked on Saturday afternoon in front of his daughters while walking in Devil’s State Park Devil’s Den, police said.

The arrest occurs after a one -day human hunt.

Colonel Mike Hagar, director of the Arkansas State Police, thanked the State Police for working long hours in the search for a suspect, as well as federal agencies for their help.

“Due to his hard work and research ability, we were able to get a monster out of the streets and relieve those two beautiful girls and the rest of our citizens,” said Hagar.

The couple’s daughters are 7 and 9 years old. They were not injured in the attack and are safe with family members, authorities said.

Katrina Hutchins, Clinton Brink’s sister, said they moved to the state about three weeks ago.

The State Police was notified of the murders in Devil’s give shortly before 3 pm on Saturday. The officials published a sketch of a suspect and asked the public for help. They said the witnesses saw a four -door black sedan with tape that partially covered their tuition.

“Clinton and Cristen died heroes, protecting their girls and deserve justice. They will live forever in all our hearts,” the family said in a previous statement.

The authorities on Wednesday did not mention a suspicious reason or how the murders occurred.

Devil’s Den State Park is about 26 miles south of Springdale, a city of around 84,000 in the northwest part of the state.
