Police said Tuesday having arrested a suspect involved in the assault and attempted murder of an eight -year -old girl in the Mansehra battles area.
According to an official, the police arrested a suspect identified by the victim, who had disappeared one day before the incident.
The House Station House Officer (Shujat Hussain said Dawn.com: “On March 19, the victim’s father complained about his eight -year -old missing daughter, which led us to carry out a search operation.
“We found her injured and unconscious the next day, on March 20, in a place where the rocks left her,” he said.
The official said the police had transferred the girl to the hospital, where she regained consciousness after four days.
“According to the girl’s account, we continue our investigation until we caught the suspect identified by the victim,” said Hussain.
According to the Sho, the defendant had been arrested and confessed the crime in his initial statement.
The official added that the victim, in his statement, said she was taken to the mountains from her home by the suspect who tempted her with snacks.
He then tried to assault her, however, he was dissuaded by his shouts, which led him to get her out of the cliff.
“The suspect had left the injured girl under the rocks, however, she survived and fortunately she was found alive,” said Shussain, adding that the victim’s survival had led them to reach the suspect.
After investigating, and on the Council of the Public Prosecutor, the Police have added more sections to the first information report (FIR) against the accused.
A FIR was presented under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 511 (punishment for trying to commit crimes punished with the imprisonment for life or for a shorter term), 365 (kidnapping, kidnapping or inducing women to compete for marriage, etc.) and 337 (Shajjah, intentionally causing injured) of the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC) and section (Shajjah) Children’s Welfare Law (CPWA).
Last week, a 14 -year -old eighth student was found dead on the campus in Mansehra, which led the police to start an investigation.
Despite the presence of strict laws against rape in the country, which could result in the death or imprisonment that lasts ten to twenty -five years, incidents of sexual assault continue throughout the country.
The data collected by the non -governmental organization Sahil revealed that a total of 1,630 cases of child abuse throughout the country were reported in the last six months of 2024.
Statistics included 862 cases of child sexual abuse, 668 cases of kidnapping, 82 cases of missing children and 18 cases of children’s marriages. In the six months, there were also 48 cases of pornography after sexual abuse.
