The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) reviewed on Saturday complaints against different judges of the Superior Judiciary, “unanimously” dismissing 19 of them.
Earlier this week, the president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi called the SJC meeting to consider about two dozen complaints against judges of the Superior Court and a set of recommendations to rationalize the process of driving complaints and guarantee transparency by investigating accusations of misconduct against judges.
According to a press release dated today, seen by Dawn.comThe Council examined 24 complaints under article 209 of the Constitution. He said: “19 complaints were decided unanimously to be presented, while another five were deferred at the moment.”
The meeting was chaired by CJP Afridi and attended the senior judge of PĂșisine, Judge Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Judge Munib Akhtar, the president of the Superior Court of Lahore, Aalia Neelum and the president of the Superior Court of Sindh, Muhammad Junaid Ghafffar.
The press release also said: “The proposed draft of the rules of the SJC Secretariat Service, 2025, was approved by the Council,” and added that the investigation procedure, 2005 and the amendments in the Code of Conduct “needed to be examined from the legal and writing point of view” that required greater deliberation.
The SJC had appointed Judge Akhtar as head of a committee to propose amendments to the Code of Conduct.
In February, the SJC examined up to 46 complaints against the headlines of constitutional positions, eliminated 40 of them, requested comments on five complaints and requested more information in one case.
