The senior journalist Suhail Warraich said Friday that a column that wrote about a meeting with the Army personnel (COAS) also Munir, who lit a controversy, had been “misunderstood.”
In a column published on August 16, Warraich, senior editor in the Jang Newspaper: He wrote that Coas Munir had spoken to him during a scale in Brussels, on his way back from a recent trip to the United States. “In a question about politics, he (the chief of the army) said that political reconciliation is possible only if there is a sincere apology,” said the column, without specifying who was referring to the head of the army or who was the question. However, that appointment ended up stirring a controversy in the comment.
Challenging the impression that the Army Chief had “sought an apology for the disturbances of May 9,” the army spokesman had said Thursday that the Munir Field Marshal did not make any political statement during a recent trip to Brussels. He had also rebuked the main journalist in comments carried by the State Pakistan radio.
In his first public comment on the situation since then, Warraich issued a statement in X Today. It should be noted that, when a comment is addressed after the clarification of the ISPR DG, Warraich had refused to make one.
On Friday, he said that although he respected Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, “the points that he (Chaudhry) refuted were never mentioned in my column. Maybe he spoke based on a misunderstanding.”
Warraich said he was ready to offer additional clarification if there were more questions.
He said that the general director of Public Relations between services had firmly said that the Army Chief had not given an interview. To this, he replied: “Please, read all my column again, nowhere uses the word ‘interview’. The title of my column is simply ‘first meeting’, neither more nor less. I never wrote that it was an individual meeting.”
Warraich said it was “absolutely correct” that no discussion had taken place on the disturbances of May 9 or the founder of PTI Imran Khan, and added: “Kind reread the column; it does not contain any mention of May 9, Imran Khan or its apology. I wrote only one prayer: that the political reconciliation, he (the head of the army) cited the verses of the Holy Qure and their translation.
He said that the refuted points “on such a large scale” were not even part of their column. “If they are in someone’s mind, then it depends completely on their choice,” Warraich added.
Regarding the criticisms he received from several sectors, he said there was no need for an answer.
“The next time and history that will be written will clarify each matter. I have always avoided fights and arguments in life and even after much thinking, my opinion remains the same.”
Concluding his statement, he said that the bits on which he had written in his column were nothing more than a “fragment” of the leadership of the army and any interpretation that one wanted to take from them was their desire.
“Those who hit their noses in my column are making arbitrary interpretations and artificial interpretations to achieve their own objectives and interests. As time passes, the true nature of all will be revealed. History is the only source that exposes false statements, false truths and the so -called accusations. History will decide in favor of journalism.”
