A Alabama contract worker was arrested and criminally accused in relation to the death of a small child who stayed for hours inside a hot car, prosecutors said on Friday.
Kela Stanford, 54, is accused of a charge of leaving a child or a disabled person disregarded in a motorized vehicle, resulting in serious physical injuries, according to the Office of the Jefferson County District Prosecutor.
If he is convicted, Stanford could face between two and 20 years in prison.

Ke’terrious Starkes Jr., a 3 -year -old boy from Bessemer, was declared dead on July 22 after being found in a car in the 1500 block of Pine Tree Drive in Birmingham, said the city police.
Ke’terrious was in the parenting care system and had been collected from the nursery by a hired employee of the State’s human resources department for a scheduled visit with his father, authorities said.
After that visit, Ke’terrious was supposed to return to the nursery, but ended at the house of the suspect and left inside the car, the police said.
The police told the child’s family that he was in that car for five hours, said Aunt Brittney Debruce del Niño this week.
Stanford had regularly led the child to and from scheduled supervised visits, so there should be no confusion, according to debruce.
