The Internet provider based in Starlink satellite on Friday received a temporary certificate of non -objection (NOC) to operate in Pakistan, according to a statement from the Ministry of IT.
Starlink Services, owned by the Elon Musk technological billionaire, is one of the most technologically advanced companies among those provided by the Internet through satellites of low terrestrial orbit (Leo).
Musk confirmed in January that Starlink requested to launch Internet services in Pakistan, but was “waiting for government approval.” A user in X, also owned by Musk, confirmed that Pakistan had “approved Starlink.”
According to today’s statement, IT Minister Shaza Fatima said Starlink received a temporary record on the instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“Starlink has been issued a NOCPARY with the consensus of all safety and regulation agencies,” Fatima said. “The arrival of Starlink to Pakistan will mark the formal launch of satellite internet services.”
The minister said that registering Starlink was “a big step” to improve the country’s internet services and IT infrastructure with the instructions of the Prime Minister. He added that Pakistan is “moving towards digital development” under the leadership of Prime Minister Shebaz.
“The prime minister had ordered that the Internet system in Pakistan should be improved,” Fatima said. “Modern solutions such as the Internet satellite will improve connectivity in the country.”
The minister added that the Starlink registration was an “the entire government” approach and that the TI Ministry consulted with the Cybercrime crime agency, security agencies, PTA and the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board.
“The PTA will complete the payment of Starlink rates and other license requirements,” Fatima said.
