Sovereignty beats Journalism to win the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY – Sovereignty overcame journalism on Saturday in a Kentucky Derby rematch to win the 157th Belmont Stakes, and the second organized in Saratoga.

The sovereignty and the Jockey Alvarado Junior crossed the eight field in a quick song of Saratoga after the downpours throughout the morning and the afternoon dried before the time after.

The 5-2 second favorite won in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds, exceeding the winning journalism of Preakness Stakes by three lengths.

Journalism was second and Baeza was third, the same 1-2-3 as Kentucky’s derby.

Journalism entered the door of Belmont as the favorite of 2-1, with Baeza the third favorite in 7-2.

The sovereignty led the first stage of the Triple Corona by winning the Derby in early May. The Colt trained by the bill also exceeded journalism in that career.

After the victory of the Derby, the 3 -year -old, owned by Godolphin, chose to get out of preakness bets to focus on Belmont, losing an opportunity in history to win the triple crown. The triple crown has not been won since 2018, when Justify Bob Baffert won the 105 Belmont Stakes to ensure the third jewel.

Journalism was the only horse that ran on the three legs, winning the preakness.
