The rapper and record producer Soulja Boy was arrested Sunday morning in Los Angeles and accused of possession of a firearm during a traffic stop, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The musician, whose real name is Deandre Cortez Way, was arrested by the police around 2:35 am local time at the intersection of Melrose and Genesee avenues, police said.
“A passenger was arrested and the police arrested Deandre Cortez for being a criminal convicted in possession of a firearm,” said Lapd, which is a serious crime.
Online records show that the 35 -year -old was arrested around 2:50 am it is not clear if he has been released since then or where he is stopped.
NBC News has communicated with a representative for the way.
Earlier this year, Way was considered sexually assaulting and physically and emotionally abuse a former assistant after a three -week trial in California. A jury granted the woman $ 4 million in damages. The woman had originally filed demand in 2021.
Rickey Ivie, a musician’s lawyer at that time, said the evidence did not support the verdict.
“It is unfortunate that sprinkles and erroneous perceptions of a culture are allowed to influence the trial,” Ivie said. “Mr. Way intends to pursue his remedies after trial and fight for a right result in this case.”
This is not the only time that a woman has presented accusations of assault against the road.
Months later, in 2021, another woman who claimed to be dating the rapper filed a lawsuit against him claiming physical and sexual abuse. Another ex -girlfriend filed a lawsuit against Way in 2020, claiming assault, aggression and false imprisonment.
The artist jumped to fame in 2007 when his simple debut “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” reached No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 of the United States.
