An Ontario mother is desperately looking for answers about her 16 -year -old son, who disappeared after traveling to Pelican Narrows, Sask.
Jay’siiah Webb-Long is from Brampton, Ontario, where he lived with his four brothers and his mother Shenice Long.
Long said that the last communication he had with his son was on Instagram in mid -May, but the last time he saw him at home was two months before, in mid -March.
Webb-Long had left home one night to go to a friend’s house and insisted that he would return home soon. But he never did.
“I would call it on video and the background did not seem presentable, as if the walls peeled and he would keep the phone quite close, so I could not see the whole environment,” he said in an interview with CBC News.
On May 5, the CMP main crimes unit took over the investigation. Police said Webb-Long left Ontario in March, before coming to Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan RCMP said they could locate the direction where they believe that Web-Long had been living in Pelican Narrows, a community that is part of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, located about 420 kilometers north of Saskatoon. But when they went there, they were told that the teenager had evacuated the area due to forest fires.
Now, RCMP is treating the case as a suspect.
‘Only super emotional’
Long Primera tried to present a report of missing persons before the Regional Police of Peel in Brampton on March 29, but said the police told him that he could not because they were still communicating, and his son had told him that he was in a friend’s house.
“I didn’t think I was in a friend’s house, because what friend?” She said. “Why can’t you give him the name of this friend? Where does this friend live? [were] running for my mind. “
Long extended frantically to his younger cousin to see if he was with whom his son had stayed. She said Webb-Long spent most of her time with that cousin when she was not at home.
The cousin said he had not seen it.
“That is what made him more worrying for me,” Long said.
His son still did not come home for his birthday in April. It was then that Long really began to wonder if he would ever come back.
“I had gone to the church and was very excited that day,” he said,
Long decided to make a call to peel the police again on April 20. That night he presented a report of missing persons with officers at home.
‘To this day, he has never told me’
Long said he was surprised to know in June that Peel Police had tracked Webb-Long to Pelican Narrows.
“To this day, he has never told me,” he said. “I heard from Saskatchewan, but … I don’t have a family there. I don’t know anyone there.”
Long said the police could track Webb-Long due to the information of an 18-year-old woman in the Toronto area who contacted Long shortly after a warning of missing persons was launched to the public on June 15.
“She is the one who really gave us a decent amount of information,” Long said.
Long said the woman had been communicating with Webb-Long by phone.
In an email to CBC News last Friday, RCMP said that its main crimes unit is still investigating the circumstances of Webb-Long’s disappearance.
“This includes interviews, collecting and processing evidence, and following the advice received,” the researchers said, he added that they cannot provide additional information at this time.
Any person with information about the disappearance or whereabouts of Webb-Long should call Saskatchewan RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
“Someone knows something,” Long said, adding that his family continues to spread his poster of missing people on social media platforms in the hope of obtaining more information about his disappearance.
“My family has been supportive and has been emotional for everyone,” he said.
Long originally did not tell his other children about the disappearance of Webb-Long. They learned after one of his children was traveling on Tiktok when a video appeared talking about the missing.
“Every day they ask questions. They say they miss him. They bring stories,” he said.
“Jay’siiah is so loved and needs to return home.”
