Karachi: A session court sentenced six police officers on Monday after 77 kilograms of charas were recovered from his official police truck while smuggling was being transported from Jamshoro to Karachi by illegal supply.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Abdul Hafeez Lashari found six CIA Jamshoro Police officers – Ghulam Abbas, Muhammad Yaqooob, Aijaz Ali Mallah, Abdul Hameed, Rahib Hussain and Ahmed Nawaz, guilt of possessing a total of 77kg of Charas. He sentenced them to life imprisonment and granted an additional judgment of two years under section 155-C of the police order, 2002.
“The evidence available in the registry established that all the defendants were serving the police officers, and they misused their official position, uniform, weapons and a police mobile issued by the Government to transport a large number of charras. This law directly attracts the crime under section 155 (c) of the police order, 2002, which deals with a misuse of authority by a police officer by a worrying officer or by caus person.
The investigation officer produced official documents that show that the defendant were published in the center of the CIA Jamshoro and that the mobile used in the crime was officially assigned to CIA Inharge. In addition, the smuggling recovered from the government vehicle, and the defendants were in police uniforms at the time of arrest. These facts establish that the defendant committed a crime under section 155 (c), since they clearly abused their legal authority to participate in illegal drug trafficking, ”said the court.
The judge observed: “This case attacks the heart of public confidence, when the jurors for defending the law betray it, the damage reverbes far beyond the courtroom. Police officers are not simply demanding of exemption from justice, but incorporate the pact between the State and its citizens. Their participation in fractur criminal acts that the agreement, eroding the faith in the institutions destined to protect society.
It is a deep violation, since when the guardians of the law became corruption agents, the belief of people in justice itself vanishes. This betrayal requires more than legal consequences. It requires a systemic record. In order for a SANE society, institutions should not only punish the culprits, but also restore their own integrity through transparency, responsibility and implacable commitment to the rule of law. Only then the shattered trust can begin to repair. “
The Court also imposed a fine at more than 500,000 each, for non -compliance, would serve in additional prison.
According to state prosecutor Shakeel Ahmed Abbasi, in July 2021, the Barco basin police had received a notice that a police mobile transported a lot of Charas for illegal supply. Acting on the information, a patrol team intercepted the vehicle and stopped six police officers. Two catches containing Charas were recovered, with a total of 77 kilograms, from the official police truck.
During the trial, the defense argued that the seized narcotics produced in the court had melted and were not in their original condition. However, the court observed that this objection had no legal merit and pointed out that Charas is a substance that can be melted or deform due to heat or pressure.
The defendant, in his statements registered in section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, said they had been arrested by the Rangers personnel in the Jamshoro toll square. The court dismissed his claim, stating that he lacked evidence of support.
The court indicated that the Prosecutor’s Office presented consistent and credible evidence, including the Testimonies of FIR and witnesses, clearly establishing that the arrests were made near Khayaban-Sahil, opposed to the Dawn apartments in Clifton, as mentioned in the FIR.
A case was recorded at the police station of the ship basin under sections 6/9 (c) of the Narcotic Substance Control Law.
