Last night, more than two hundred inmates managed to escape from the Malir District prison in Karachi, the Sindh police chief confirmed on Tuesday, adding that 78 were recaptured while one was shot dead.
Police officers said previously that the prisoners crossed the outer wall of the prison, which had weakened due to the multiple low intensity tremors that felt in the area since Sunday. The police chief said that FC staff deployed in the prison turned to massive air shots to push them back. He said the FC shot approximately 700 shots. He said there was an estimate of 2,000 prisoners, and 213 of them managed to escape.
The law agents launched an operation, recovering 78 prisoners. “During the action, a prisoner was shot dead while two others were injured,” confirmed the Sindh IG. He said the situation was now under control.
The Chief of the Sindh police said they are establishing equipment to restart the remaining escape prisoners. “One of the escaped prisoners was taken to jail for his mother,” he added. Police and prison administration had information about all escaped prisoners.
To a question, the provincial police chief apparently said that there would be “some failures” and the prisoners, finding a chance, managed to escape.
However, he said that the Sindh government has decided to establish an investigation committee to determine the circumstances that led to the incident and fix responsibility for it.

The police surgeon said that four other prisoners with gunshot wounds were also taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
They were identified as Mohammed Tahir, 28, who suffered an injury in the bullet on his left arm without output wound; Abdul Hadi, 25, who suffered firearms wounds in his joint and hip thigh; And the third prisoner, Akhter Naeem, 35, who received a gunshot wound in his buttocks.
The police surgeon said that two police officers, namely Sikander, 22, and Mohammed Shamraiz, 40, were also injured during the assault by the prisoners, and added that they were taken to the hospital to receive abrasions treatment, back pain and neck.
CM Murad promises to investigate the ‘incorrect decision’ to let the prisoners leave the cells
Sindh’s prime minister Murad Ali Shah described the incident as “alarming” and said that measures would be taken against those who made the “incorrect” decision to let the prisoners meet in the open field.
In response to media consultations after an event in Karachi, CM Murad said: “I don’t want to say anything critical, but my initial thinking is that it was wrong to let them out [into the ground]. “
He explained that the shocks of such a lower magnitude were something “good”, since the earth releases its seismic energy in bits instead of a massive earthquake.

“My request for them (escaped prisoners) would be to surrender, otherwise, their participation in the incident of the jail will be equivalent to terrorism or larger cases,” he added.
The Sindh prisons minister Ali Hasan Zardari had previously noticed the Jailbreak and sought a report of the IG and Excava prisons.
