Sindh govt to allocate funds for EV taxis, scooters in provincial budget: minister – Pakistan

In an attempt to provide ecological transport facilities, the SNDH government has decided to buy more buses and assign funds for taxis and electric vehicles (EV) in the next fiscal year 2025-26.

The Sindh government has reaffirmed its commitment to address urban mobility and transport problems. With a population of 20 million, the metropolis faces unbridled infrastructure problems that range from transport, water and sanitation.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Minister for Transportation and Transit Mass of Sharjeel Inam Memon and attended the secretary transports Asad Zamin, the managing director of the Transits Massas authority (SMTA) Kamal Dayo and the Transkarachi CEO, Fuad Ghafffar Soomro, among other officials.

During the meeting, an exhaustive review of several projects under the Department of Provincial Transportation and Public Transportation was discussed, including people’s bus service, EV scooters and other issues. The meeting also discussed the establishment of cargo stations for EV vehicles in several places in the province.

The minister received a detailed informative session on the projects of the Department of Transportation for the outgoing fiscal year 2024-25, and held exhaustive discussions about the projects proposed for next year.

Memon was informed about the launch of bus services by several investors under the public-private partnership mode.

The meeting was informed that the work at Jam Sadiq Bridge, an important part of the Yellow BRT line, is complete and could be inaugurated in the coming months. It was decided to accelerate the work further at the end of the Red BRT line.

Memon said the provincial government is committed to establishing an environmentally sustainable and modern public transport system. “The Sindh government constantly strives for ecological and affordable travel facilities for people,” he said.

The minister said that a new buse lot is expected to arrive in Karachi soon, while two -story buses are also introduced.

“We have launched successful projects such as EV Buses, the People’s bus service in Karachi, and we are working to place this network in each Karachi corner,” he added. “We want all citizens of Sindh, including Karachi, take advantage of modern travel facilities.”

The minister said that the projects launched by the Government of Sindh aim to regulate the city’s traffic and develop the transport system in modern lines.

During a recent visit to the headquarters of the Chinese car company Chery Holdings Group (CHG) in Wuhu, China, Memon has announced that a load station for the EVs will be established every 50 kilometers in all districts of the province.

During the meeting, the company expressed its willingness to install the EV load infrastructure in SNDH. Memon said that the establishment of EV load stations at regular intervals would benefit motorcycle owners, cars and electric trucks.

He mentioned that innovation is reaching the Tradeh Transportation System and its vision is to promote Ev ecological vehicles.

He added that the initiative would also create employment opportunities at the local level. In addition, an assembly plant for mini -trucks in Karachi is being installed, he said.
