All public and private schools and universities in Karachi will remain closed on Thursday since heavy rains have left parts of the city flooded, announced the Department of Education of Sindh.
The energy was almost restored throughout the city, and only a few roads had remained flooded after the strong downpour on Tuesday before a heavy rain spell at the end of the afternoon accompanied by stocked winds on Wednesday interrupted the hopes of Karachiites of a rapid return to normal.
The Sindh government had ordered that all public and private education institutions in the entire city remain closed on Wednesday, after Karachi mayor, Murtaza Wahab, declared an emergency of rain.
The notifications issued today by the Departments of University Education and School Education of the Government of Sindh declared that schools will remain closed tomorrow (August 21) due to heavy rain. The notices are available with Dawn.com.
The Government notified that the closure will be applied to all private and public institutions in the Karachi Division, which are under the administrative control of the College Department of Colleic Education of the Government of Sindh and the Department of School Education and Literacy.
Later, on Wednesday night, the University of Health Sciences (DUHS) also issued a notification indicating that it would remain closed on Thursday due to heavy rains in the metropolis.
“All scheduled exams are postponed. The revised dates will be announced in due time through the official notification”, the notice, available with Dawn.comread.

The notification added that postgraduate apprentices in Dr. Ruth Km PFAU, the Civil Hospital, Karachi and Dow University Hospital would follow the vacation list.
Three children were among four more murdered people in rain -related incidents in Karachi on Wednesday night, raising the dead number to 14 since the metropolis was whipped with heavy rains for the second consecutive day.
At 8 pm, the city of Orangi had registered the heaviest showers, receiving 37 millimeters in total of the two spells. The base of Faisal Paf in Sharea Faisal continued with 32 mm, while Jinnah Terminal measured 18 mm. Keamari received 13 mm, and the old area of the airport saw 11 mm of rain. Other parts of the city experienced lighter showers, including Korangi with 6.8 mm, the Met Office metal station at University Road with 7.6 mm, Nazimabad with 2 mm, the PAF Masroor base in Karachi West with 2 mm and arise town with 1.8 mm. Several areas, such as Gulan-E-Hadeed, Gulshan-E-Maymar, Saadi Town and Bahria Town, recorded negligence or no rain during this period.
