Several people are feared after a small plane crashed into a California neighborhood before dawn on Thursday, destroying houses and setting fire on cars.
At least 10 houses were burned or beaten by debris that extended over a large area, and the cars on both sides of a street caught fire when Cessna 550 crashed into the ground in San Diego.
“There is more than one mortality that we find so far, but we are waiting to obtain the registered numbers that were on the plane itself,” said the Chief of Fire Department of the San Diego Fire Department.
“When he went out, when the fuel for airplanes fell, he took every car that was on both sides of the street,” he said, added: “We have fuel for airplanes throughout the place.”
The images of the immediate consequences of the shock showed a line of flame fuel that binds cars on fire.
Eddy said “miraculously” that no one on the ground had been seriously injured or wounded.
The daylight revealed what a nearby call had been for some people, with images that show the roof of a blackened house and collapsing. The vehicles were twisted and carbonized, with one still burning.
“We have a fire in a car that will simply not be careful regardless of what we put at this time,” Eddy told journalists.
The accident occurred in a thick fog when the plane, which had come from Kansas, approached the Montgomery-Gibbs executive airport.
The plane, which can transport up to eight people, fell around 3:45 am (1145 GMT, 4:45 PM PKT), according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), hitting the Murphy Canyon neighborhood.
The residential area that hit is a largely military housing. San Diego is home to the United States Navy facilities, the bases of the Marines Corps and the Coast Guard stations.
Zane Baker, a high school student who lives in the area, said the police officers had gone from door to door by taking people out of their homes.
“I immediately hurried to the main door, just looking outside, seeing what is happening,” he told BroadCaster Ktla. “I made sure that all my brothers were awake and they were aware and were fine.”
Baker, who described himself as a “Navy Rat”, the son of a service member, said dozens of people had been evacuated from their homes, and many now get confused.
“The totality of our parking lots and other areas are completely full,” he said. “Many of the tickets are blocked. People cannot enter or leave. It is a confusing disaster.”
The accident occurred at a time of high tension in the heavens over America, with a series of incidents that shake public confidence in flying.
The air traffic control cuts have reached Newark’s busy airport on the east coast at least twice in recent weeks, and in January, there was a collision in the air on Washington between a passenger plane and a military helicopter.
This month, two people who were aboard a small plane died when he crashed into a residential neighborhood northwest of Los Angeles.
