Separatists say they have taken hostages in Pakistan train attack

The separatist militants said they had taken hostages during an attack against a train that transported hundreds of people in southwest Pakistan on Tuesday and threatened to kill them if their demands were not met.

Government officials and provincial railroads did not immediately confirm if they had taken hostages.

The train, which had taken about 400 passengers, was trapped inside a tunnel after the attack, in which he was attentive and the driver was injured, police officers and the railroad said.

The security forces said that an explosion had been heard around the tunnel and that they were exchanging fire with the militants in a mountainous area.

In a statement, the Balach Liberation Army (Bla), a militant separatist group, said he had taken the train hostages, including security forces. He threatened to execute the hostages if the security forces did not retire.

The Jaffar Express had been on the way to Quetta in the province of Southwest Baluchistan of Pakistan to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when he shot, rail officials said.

Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and said that the government would not make any concession to “beasts that shoot in innocent passengers.”

The Baluchistan government has imposed emergency measures to deal with the situation, said Rind.

An insurgency of decades in Baluchistan by separatist militant groups has led to frequent attacks against the interests of the government, the army and Chinese in the region, pressing the demands of a participation in the rich resources in minerals.

The Bla seeks the independence of Baluchistan. It is the largest of several insurgent ethnic groups that have fought against the Government of the Nation of Southern Asia for decades, saying that the rich Gas and Minerals of Baluchistan unjustly exploits.
