New administrative capital, Egypt: There was a silenced response from Israel after Hamas said he had agreed to the last proposal of Arab mediators for a high fire in Gaza and free the remaining hostages.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told NBC News on Tuesday that the agreement was based on a proposal from the Envoy of the Middle East of President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, for a high fire of 60 days, during which some of the remaining 50 hostages would be released and the parties would negotiate a cessation of cessation and the return of the rest.
He added that the proposals would allow “the flow of humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza as soon as possible to address the starvation in progress there.”
“The ball is now on the court of Israel. We would like a positive response of them as soon as possible to deal with the disastrous situation in Gaza, especially the hunger and murder of civilians,” he said. “Even if it is just a 60 -day truce, it provides a window of opportunity. We must apply the maximum pressure on both sides to advance,” he added.
Hamas said in a statement on Monday that the militant group and other Palestinian factions had approved proposals that were presented by Egyptian mediators and Qatari.
When asked about that announcement, a spokesman for the office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to a statement that made a determination of advancing with a military campaign on Monday to assume total control of the city of Gaza in the north of the enclave. They also noticed that Hamas seemed to be “under immense pressure.”
Netanyahu’s office did not respond when asked for an additional response on the proposals.
Netanyahu’s ultra -nationalist finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, condemned the development in a statement on Monday. “We fight only to win! In no way to stop in the middle, with a partial agreement that will leave half of the hostages and could lead the war to be arrested in the defeat,” he said.
And Trump also seemed to cushion the hopes of a truce in a publication about Truth Social on Monday. “We will only see the return of the remaining hostages when Hamas is confronted and destroyed! The sooner this occurs, the better the chances of success,” he wrote.
His envoy, Witkoff, retired from negotiations less than a month ago, accusing Hamas of not acting in good faith.
The proposals occurred when the Palestinians in Gaza continue to deal with a devastating hunger crisis, with humanitarian groups warning that the help that enters the enclave in recent days will not be enough to stop an increase in deaths due to hunger.
Israel prohibited the entry of food, medicine and other vital supplies in Gaza on March 2, in the middle of its high fire with Hamas. After lifting the blockade in May, it allowed helping for weeks. But in the midst of an international reaction and accusations of using hunger as a weapon of war, the allowed amount finally increased.
Israel has defended the blockade by saying that enough help is entering the strip, while accusing Hamas of deviation help, a position of Hamas and the help groups have denied. An internal analysis of the United States government found no evidence of systematic robbery of help supplies by Hamas. The Israeli army dismissed that report as “partial.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said Monday that he had registered three more adult deaths “due to famine and malnutrition” in a 24 -hour period, which led the total number of deaths of the starvation to 266 people, including 112 children.
With the restricted road ticket, some countries have carried out aerial airplanes, although they are widely considered ineffective and dangerous. A ship that transported 1,200 tons of food for Gaza approached the Israeli port of Ashdod on Tuesday in an attempt to help address the crisis, according to Associated Press.
Israel launched its offensive in Gaza after the attacks led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, attacks in which some 1,200 people were killed and around 250 hostages, marking an important escalation in a decades conflict.
Since then, more than 62,000 people have been killed in Gaza, including thousands of children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the enclave, while much of the territory has been destroyed.
