The Senate voted on Saturday to confirm former Fox News presenter and prosecutor, Jeanine Pirro, as US prosecutor for Washington DC.
The vote was throughout the game, 50-45, with senators Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Peter Welch, D-Vt., And Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., Not voting.
Pirro had been serving as an interim prosecutor of the United States for DC since May, after Trump appointed her to replace the conservative activist Ed Martin as the main federal prosecutor in Washington.
In a social position, announcing the appointment of Pirro, Trump praised the former prosecutor as a “powerful crusade for the victims of crime” and “incredibly well qualified for the position.”
Pirro has been one of Trump’s most prominent and fierce allies, which previously used its platform as a large number of two Fox News programs to boost conspiracy theories about the vote after Trump’s electoral loss in 2020. It was summoned in a demand for defamation against Fox News by Dominion Voting Systems for the diffusion role of electoral disinformation. Fox News finally reached an agreement of $ 787.5 million with Dominion in 2023.
Pirro previously served as a prosecutor of the Westchester County Assistant, New York, and finally became the first woman chosen to serve as Westchester County District. During his term, Pirro began the first unit of domestic violence in the office of a prosecutor, an achievement cited that Trump cited in his decision to appoint her as US prosecutor.
After his judicial career, Pirro in 2005 launched an offer failed by the Republican nomination for the Senate in New York, with the aim of challenging the head Hillary Clinton. Shortly after, he launched a campaign for the New York Attorney General, but the effort was derailed by a federal investigation into a Pirro plot to register his then husband Albert Pirro, who suspected that he was having an adventure.
The confirmation of Pirro continues a tendency that Trump rensures the hosts of Fox News with high profile appointments, with the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the Secretary of Transportation are Duffy among the former Fox News staff working in the Trump administration.
The Democrats had been trying to delay the votes to Trump’s nominees by forcing additional procedural votes in each one, which caused a violent reaction on Saturday afternoon of Trump, and the president was specifically addressed to the leader of the Chuck Schumer Senate minority, Dn.Y.
“Tell Schumer, who is under a tremendous political pressure of his own party, the lunatics of the radical left, who go to hell!” Trump said in a social publication of truth this afternoon urging Republicans not to offer Democrats any concession to accelerate the rhythm of confirmations.
Despite that message, the Senate Republicans were able to reach an agreement with the Democrats on Saturday night, withdrawing votes in a large batch of Trump nominees before an August recess of four weeks.
Senate Republicans have indicated that they plan to consider changes in the rules once they return in September, which would make the process of confirming the nominees move faster, an effort that the Democrats will probably be opposed.
