Senate body seeks details of individuals on Fourth Schedule – Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A Senate committee on Wednesday sought details of persons included in the Fourth Schedule.

The Senate Committee on Delegated Legislation, chaired by Senator Naseema Ehsan, met to discuss different agenda items. The first item on the agenda concerned the preparation of the Auqaf Rules by the ICT administration.

Senator Attaur Rahman raised serious concerns on the issue of fourth schedule in the context of these rules. However, the committee asked stakeholders to address the concerns of Senator Attaur Rahman before issuing such rules and carefully weigh the concerns of all stakeholders while finalizing the Auqaf Rules.

Additionally, the committee discussed the issue of protection of abandoned or unclaimed children. Officials from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ICT child protection offices/commissions briefed the committee on the safeguards and mechanisms in place for the rehabilitation of children and their subsequent adoption.

The ICT Child Protection Office revealed that it has rescued about 410 children since 2021 and is working to make it more efficient by addressing its human resource deficiencies.

Chairperson Senator Naseema Ehsan acknowledged the Punjab Child Protection Bureau for its extraordinary performance and recommended that there is dire need for harmony among the offices of all provinces as they work for the same noble cause.

The meeting was attended by Senators Syed Shibli Faraz, Hamid Khan, Bushra Anjum Butt, Attaur Rehman and Rubina Qaimkhani and representatives of concerned ministries and departments.
