Multiple major wildfires are leaving a trail of destruction and death in the Los Angeles area.
A handful of wildfires that started Tuesday, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, have exploded in size. As of Saturday afternoon, 16 people had died and more than 12,000 buildings and structures had been destroyed. More than 153,000 people are under evacuation alert and more than a dozen are missing.

The maps below show the sizes and states of the fires. They will be updated frequently.
The largest of the fires, the Palisades Fire, is more than 35 square miles. That’s more than half the size of Washington, DC’s land. A second fire, the Eaton Fire, is now more than 22 square miles.
The Palisades Fire threatens thousands of structures within the fire perimeter.
The Palisades Fire has grown rapidly, more than doubling in size in just a few hours Tuesday.
The fires have caused power outages throughout the Los Angeles area.
